Professor Cheng is a distinguished Physiologist, recognised in the entire world as a specialist in innovative approach to Physiology teaching and learning techniques. In Malaysia, this type of contest was organized for the first time in 2003, with 7 participant teams from Malaysian Universities. The enthusiasm of the students that participated in the competition, the impact that the contest had on the Physiology teaching, but especially the implication and the unique vision of Professor Cheng led to a progressive increase, year by year, of the interest for this quiz. The last edition of the Inter-Medical School Physiology Quiz took place in 2025 and brought together students from 15 countries, organized in 70 university teams. Over the years, Professor Cheng was invited to coordinate this type of contest in different countries from Asia, but also in the United States and Australia. Romania is the first country from Europe that organized this competition in 2018, 2019 and 2023. Now we want to extend this contest at the European level and bring teams from all over Europe.
Format&Rules

The quiz is based on the original version of the contest. First of all, there will be an individual written test, with multiple choice questions. Based on the results of this test, Professor Cheng will distribute the teams in groups of 4-5 competing teams that will take part in the second round of the competition.

The second part of the competition, the oral one, will have three rounds:
-
The first round consists of 5 sessions of questions, each of them involving 4 - 5 competing teams. The team with the highest score in each group goes to the second round.
-
The second round consists of 3 sessions of questions, each of them involving 4 teams. The team with the highest score in each group goes for the third round.
-
The final round involves the winners of the previous rounds.
Professor Cheng asks the questions focused on the physiology of Respiration, Excretion, Cardiovascular System, Endocrine System and Nervous System, but in order to respond to all the questions, students must know all the subjects and aspects of Physiology. Teams have 30 seconds in order to think about the answers and to write them on a white board. With the chronometer started and with the public in front of them, the students have to prove their ability to focus, to work together and to write the best response they can come with.
